Will OE (Original Equipment) TPMS Sensors Fit On My Aftermarket Rims?

So you've just bought some sweet, brand new aftermarket rims to put on your car. There's just one thing holding you back from getting on the road: your factory installed, original equipment tire pressure monitoring sensors. We get this question quite often: "Will my OE sensors fit on my aftermarket rims?" Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. It really depends on when your rims were purchased.

The TREAD Act requires that all vehicles sold in the United States from September 2007 and up, be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system. Wheel companies most likely began to create OE TPMS compatible rims to accommodate to the changing landscape of the automotive world. TPMS is the law, and if the laws are not adhered to, the penalties could be costly (and sometimes fatal). Much of the responsibility lies on modern wheel companies to shift the approach on wheel manufacturing and refusal to follow TPMS laws could result in devastating consequences.

What if your wheels aren't designed to have original equipment sensors installed in them? Don't worry. There are other ways to attach sensors to your rims. We offer three types of TPMS installation alternatives: TPMS 1501 Outer Mount Adapter, TPMS1566 90 Degree Adapter, and the TPMS8301 Mounting Strap Kit. The outer mount adapter and the 90 degree adapter are designed to work on 2 and 3 piece wheels and some forged, 1 piece wheels. The strap kit is a popular choice and can be used with any type of rim.

If you're unsure whether or not your rims are TPMS compatible, feel free to shoot us an email at [email protected] or give us a call at (714) 382-3996. We recommend contacting your wheel manufacturer and asking one of their representatives if OE sensors will fit on your wheel model.
