TRW Unveils New Integrated Remote Keyless Entry and Tire Pressure Monitoring System

TRW Automotive, a world leader in cognitive safety systems has launched its first integrated Remote Keyless Entry and Direct Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

Here's what Ken Kaiser, vice president of TRW Global Electronics Engineering, says about TRW's latest innovation: "Integrating RKE (remote keyless entry) and TPMS can offer enhanced value and performance.....By Eliminating the need for separate receivers for the two systems, we can maintain performance characteristics, use less space, reduce system weight and wiring complexity, and ultimately lower material and assembly costs."

Commands from the RKE along with temperature and pressure information sent from TPMS sensors in each individual tire are received by a single receiver/electronic control unit. The ECU then decodes the transmitted data to activate the lock/unlock function of the vehicle as well as provide tire pressure information to the driver.

To combat the increased risk of radio frequency interference associated with wireless communication, TRW insists on the use of multiple frequencies in its new system to ensure that the remote keyless entry properly functions if one of the frequencies is unavailable.
