Can I Reuse My Factory Installed TPMS Sensors?

Yes, you can definitely reuse your factory installed tire pressure monitoring sensors. Sensors are fragile and can be easily damaged, so please be sure to exercise caution when removing the sensors from your wheels. Any kind of damage to the sensor or the valve stem may require the entire unit to be replaced. You should also consider when the production year of your vehicle and how long the factory equipped sensors have been functioning for. The TREAD act requires all vehicles produced after September 2007 to be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system. The estimated lifespan of an original equipment TPMS sensor is 5-7 years. This means that many drivers on the road today are using sensors that may expire soon. If this is the case, it would probably be wise to just purchase new sensors all together to avoid having to go to the auto shop, remove your wheels, break down your tires, remove the old sensors, replace the service kit, install the old sensors in a different wheel, mount the tires, mount the wheels, and have the sensors stop working shortly after. This is a costly, time consuming cycle that most people would not want to repeat multiple times.

If your TPMS are nearing the end of its average battery life, don't reuse them. Buy new OE TPMS and save yourself lots of trouble and stress.
